#30RhedeontDays takes you behind some of the best photos taken by Darryl D. Smith and Kali Rhe Rogers. Here is why the photo was chosen in their words:
Some things happen when you least expect it.
When a severe storm swept through central North Carolina in April of 2011, there were reports of isolated tornadoes in region. One (or two) touched down in Raleigh. It may have not been a big one, but the damage was noticeable in some areas of the city. On South Saunders Street, quite a few buildings got damaged during the process.
A young boy and presumably his father looked at what was around them at the time the pic was shot. I believe that a car of theirs may have been struck by a light post. Either way, seeing the older male survey what happened while the boy looked on in bewilderment summed up how most reacted to the storm. It was quite the unpleasant surprise.
Nature can be highly unpredictable – that day in 2011 being one of them.
